Pale Blue Dot

As I rode home today on the bus from school, I examined the environment around me outside and even on the bus. People were on the bus sharing laughs with complete strangers, complaining about the ride taking too long, and some were listening to their headphones. I usually listen to mine, but today the volume was off. I chose to make today a day of observation.

Outside of the bus, I seen hundreds of cars traveling to different destinations. Probably some going to work, some going to school, some going to eat, or just going to see a friend. I spotted a school bus driver yelling at all of the kids on the bus. I felt bad for him, but I laughed. I noticed a small restaurant on a corner with a few old guys hanging out having a coffee. In a weird way, I want to be like them when I'm old. We all have daily routines. School, work, family, friends, etc. We do everything without thinking twice.

Outside what I observed, there are an unthinkable amount of events happening. People are sleeping on the other side of earth. There are wars being fought in the middle east. Polar Bears are traveling all over the arctic circle. A man is taking his dog for a walk. A college kid is writing in his blog. THIS is what happens daily here:

You see that dot there? No, it's not a crumb on your computer screen. That is what we call home. Planet Earth - a Pale Blue Dot. This photograph of Earth was taken by Voyager 1 from more than 37 billion miles away. The idea of taking this photo is credited to a scientist and astrologer Carl Sagan. He also named it the "Pale Blue Dot".

That's right. We are just a dot in a never-ending amount of black space. But, is that really all we are? As of right now, we are the only known planet to harbor life. Even if it is not true, we all have been given an opportunity. An opportunity to experience "Life". We could debate religious philosophies, economic policies, or even what is moral and what's not. But, maybe we should just enjoy what we have been given here on this particle in space.

Here is a youtube video of the Pale Blue Dot with a reading by Carl Sagan from his book. He summarizes the picture perfectly. Please check it out and enjoy. Also below is the Wiki link to information on the Pale Blue Dot and Carl Sagan.

P.S. This subject was difficult to write on mainly because it is tough to put my thoughts into words. I tried to write about some of the things flying through my head. Hopefully, I can add more to this subject as time goes on. I hope you all enjoyed. Please comment. Maybe get some discussion going.

It's amazing that OUR home may be so seemingly inept in the cosmic vast expanse.

So mundane, routine and lacking.

But the joy is that we made it.

Whether it be a couple rocks colliding in space or the divine impression of a genius deity we are special.

Our essence is to be that which we can...important!

In our own lives or in others, we are here, not for us but for everything else.

Be kind to the environent, your neighbor, your least favorite professor.

This is the glory of being US.

We have ALL been giving a gift that is RIGHTEOUS!

Good Points all across. Especially the part of being kind to EVERYTHING and EVERYONE. Treat everyone with respect and kindness. Never look down on somebody else.
